Playing the Power Grid IPO on listing

Friday, October 5, 2007 11 comments

I can suggest you a simple strategy to play the Power Grid IPO in short term.

Watch the price for first few minutes on listing. Note down the close after say 5-10 minutes. So if one can jump in keeping a stop loss which is 5-10% below this close and ride the upward movement in the stock.

So if the stock closes at 80 in first five/ten minutes, you can keep a stop at 75 /70 to ride your profits for the day. The more risk you are willing to take, the more chance of bigger profits you can have.

Power Grid IPO demand at $47 billion

Thursday, September 13, 2007 10 comments

Power grid IPO has been subscribed 65x times with QIB category going at 115x. Retail was 5x. CNBC reports that $600 million each have been bid by the likes of HSBC, Fidelity and Soros fund. Also domestic institutions like LIC, SBI,IDFC etc have put in bids of 2500-3000 crore each! The total demand has been seen at $47 billion.

This is going to be the “mother of all IPOs” !

Till the company gets listed, it might be a good idea to keep an eye on PFC,PTC,NTPC etc. It might not be a bad idea to add these stocks on corrections.

Power Grid IPO fully subscribed

Monday, September 10, 2007 6 comments

Bloomberg reports that Power grid IPO has been fully subscribed on the first day itself. This is definitely not a surprise and I would recommend picking it up on listing in case it gets heavily oversubscribed or you don’t get allotment. As this is a long term play, investors will have ample opportunity to get in after listing.

Power Grid Corporation IPO Analysis

Monday, September 10, 2007 8 comments

Read the detailed analysis of Power Grid IPO. This is one of the few IPOs I personally like. A great play on India’s power sector. The company enjoys a near monopoly in inter state transmission and is expected to reap great benefits when power trading is allowed in the coming months. This might be a good option to park your money in these volatile times.

Power Grid Corporation- Do not miss this IPO!

Wednesday, September 5, 2007 2 comments

Although I am not a big fan of IPOs but I feel one must subscribe to Power grid Corporation’s IPO on September 10. And if you don’t get allotment in IPO, lap up this stock on listing day for slightly longer term horizon.

Read this news item related to the company. Read what brokerages are saying about the issue.

Omnitech IPO-Book profits

Tuesday, August 14, 2007 2 comments

I personally did not like Omnitech IPO. As there was such huge demand for the IPO, one might see some listing gains. I’d advise you take the gains on listing and runaway. See what happened to Omaxe.

Keep an eye on Everonn Systems-another recent listing which is hitting new highs!.The stock has made a decent base around 450 levels and might turn out to be a good bet .

HDIL IPO listing-Update

Tuesday, July 24, 2007 Leave a comment

HDIL IPO listed at around 550, touched a low of 535 and is now trading firm at 565 levels. Some of my clients who were following the strategy I had outlined earlier, reported picking it up around 545 levels with a 530 stop loss. So far, it is working out well.Going pretty similar to DLF experience.
